The Characters Of Zenonia 2 [Gamevil]

Gamevil’s follow-up to the beloved iPhone role-playing game Zenonia brings four new characters, ranged fighters Ekne and Morpice, and melee warriors Daza and Lu. Get to know them in their official bios. Zenonia 2: The Lost Memory, in closed beta testing as you read this, features four characters, each falling into one of two categories, ranged and melee. The teenage paladin Lu and Warrior Daza will be at the forefront of battle, taking as good as they can get while magician Morpice and pistol-packing Ekne take up the rear. I’m a little worried about ranged characters in a game controlled with a virtual joystick, which doesn’t always work, but I am looking forward to getting my hands on all four of these new characters when Zenonia 2 hits the iPhone app store, hopefully later this month.

EA: Medal Of Honor Won’t "Wave The Flag" [Ea]

When Modern Warfare took off towards a nuclear-tipped fantasy land, it left a hole in the market for a realistic take on, well, modern warfare. Something EA is keen to take advantage of with its upcoming Medal Of Honor reboot. Speaking with IncGamers, EA’s Sean Decker says that the game is more Hurt Locker than America’s Army when it comes to its characters and setting. “There’s been a lot of really good movies – the Gotham Awards just came out and Hurt Locker was the top one. It has nothing to do with the war in Iraq and why it started, or anything else – it’s just about the men on the ground, what they go through on a day-to-day basis, and their emotions.” “It’s not going to be a big propaganda piece where we wave the flag, or anything like that. It’s literally about the people that’re on the ground”. Precisely why I’m looking forward to the game more than I probably should be. If games like Brothers in Arms (and even Company of Heroes) can tell a capable Second World War story without moralising, there’s no reason we shouldn’t get one for a more recent conflict. Warner Buys Batman: Arkham Asylum Devs [Business]

Looking to lock down one of the most promising developers in the business, Warner Bros. has purchased a majority stake in Rocksteady Studios, the developers behind Batman: Arkham Asylum. Warner lent a hand on the first Batman, and will be publishing the sequel, but that obviously wasn’t enough for the film studio, which in recent years has sought to increase its influence in the video game business. This should help nicely. “The Rocksteady team is very much looking forward to creating more great games based on widely recognised Warner Bros. brands like Batman”, Rocksteady’s Sefton Hill told Edge. So, what’s next, Superman? Warner Acquires Majority Stake In Rocksteady Studios [Edge]

Is This Our First Look At Dead Space 2? [Ea]

Unfortunately, it very well may be. This Rorschach inkblot-esque image was recently uploaded by what appears to be the official Dead Space Twitter account, a not-so-subtle collage of Necromorph silhouettes and Unitology alphabet scratches. At first glance, Dead Space fans may recognize a leaper, lurker and slasher, then see that all-important Marker begin to appear. That’s probably Dead Space 2 related, then, as the game’s due to make at least one print appearance this month. And an appearance at next week’s Spike TV VGA Awards sure seems likely. So, strap yourself in, kids and prepare for many, many months of grueling Dead Space 2 marketing doled out in tiny, barely life-sustaining crumbs. As much as I’m looking forward to a proper Dead Space sequel, I’m hungry for screen shots, videos and a disc in my hand as soon as is humanly possible! And would someone kindly translate the Unitology stuff, please? I got as far as “the” and threw in the towel. Dead Space 2 [Twitpic via Cinemablend - thanks, Don!]

You May Not Like Where Command & Conquer Is Headed [C&C]

Jon Van Caneghem, EA’s new head of all things Command & Conquer, has grand plans for the future direction of the series. Plans die-hard fans of C&C may be interested/horrified to hear. See, Van Caneghem is a big supporter of things like “games as service”, and online delivery. Which makes him a good fit for EA, since that’s exactly what EA are moving towards, with games like Battlefield Heroes and their acquisition of online gaming company Playfish . So what does this mean for the future of Command & Conquer? Well, we knew he was going to “transform” the series , but maybe not this drastically. Chew over these quotes from an interview with Van Caneghem over on Gamasutra. The first regarding strategy games taking a leaf out of Battlefield Heroes’ book. “Look what online has done for RPGs over the last 10 years. All the other categories are following suit… we’re looking forward to building something to be a leader in that space.” On where he sees C&C fitting in with this shift, he says “”It allows you to do everything you would have expected from a boxed game, but it adds a lot more to it… being connected and connected with players, and persistence, the social elements of playing against each other with other friends.” And, perhaps most distressingly, this: “What you’re seeing with all the social gamers on Facebook… they are actually already playing strategy games whether they know it or not. Taking a franchise like Command and Conquer and expanding it to a wider audience is part of the strategy.” Tiberiumville, coming to Facebook, 2010. Interview: Van Caneghem Talks EALA’s Vision, Command & Conquer [Gamasutra]

To: Luke From: Crecente Re: I just came to a horrible realization: I’m going on vacation in less than two weeks. Don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with my wife and son and I love traveling. So I’m very much looking forward to our trip to Australia. We’ll be staying with Trish’s parents in the Blue Mountains. But I just, I mean JUST, finished the last game I needed to complete for reviewing and was, in the back of my head, thinking about settling down into a long winter of great gaming. But now, now that my necessary gaming has wrapped up, I’ll be heading to a console free home. So no gaming for me until January. I supposed the surfing, hiking and a balmy Christmas will have to make up for it.
