Five Pounds in One Day [Note]

To: Ash From: Crecente Every three or four years for most of my adult life I get hit with this bizarre, and very nasty, stomach bug. It usually hits me in the evening and has in the past always resulted in my being taken to the emergency room where a doctor declares that he has never seen anyone as dehydrated as me. I guess I can mark it off my leap year calendar now, because I spent yesterday in bed concentrating on trying not to expunge what little liquid I managed to sip between clenched teeth. The bug struck about 3 a.m. Thursday morning and didn’t leave until I’d say about the same time Friday. Today I woke up feeling rested but worn. I got on the scale to discover I had lost five pounds in one day. I know it was one day because I weighed myself two mornings before to see how my fitness program was going. I guess that’s what happens when your entire intake for 30 hours or so is a 20 ounce bottle of water… and you don’t finish it. To: Ash From: Crecente Re: Japanese Tax Time! At the request of our readers , I wrote up my thoughts on The Crazies today for a review . Did you see the original? Romero really knew how to make them didn’t he. It’s amazing how much film, literature, comics, toys and video games overlap these days. That’s one of the reasons I think it’s a tremendous disservice to wear pop-culture blinders when writing about gaming. Sometimes I think it’s great to step outside the bounds of pure video games to write about Auteur theory and how it applies to gaming, or talk about cognitive dissonance or even White Dog. You can see echoes of gaming in all of those things. In the end it makes us all more well-rounded people, culturally speaking, and what’s the downside? A story someone might decide to not read. I can live with that. Money Well Spent [Night Note]

To: Luke From: Owen This past week I got my taxes done – because I lived in three states last year, and other circumstances, I figured a professional was the best way to go. The bill wasn’t so bad. California got nothing. Considering how badly they screwed up my vehicle title transfer, and rejected my unemployment claim, I kind of smiled at that. The accountant almost apologized when she told me I owed money to South Carolina, where I’d lived for four months with my grandfather. “It’s $12,” she said. But I kind of like it that I have to pay taxes there. It puts a final certification on the four months I spent with Granddad. They were some very good times in my life, giving me have plenty of memories of my grandfather. You can’t put any price tag on such things, but I will definitely consider it money well spent.
