Red Dead New York City [Rockstar]

So your game is suffering from some poor publicity ? Why not have a building-sized version of Red Dead Redemtion’s hero John Marston blow all your troubles away. Continuing a long tradition of plastering New York City streets with giant game posters, this Red Dead poster can be seen on the corner of Canal & Greene (which, being only a few blocks away from Rockstar’s offices, was also the location of giant Chinatown Wars and GTAIV advertisements). Least it could be seen, if the city wasn’t buried under shitty weather today. East Meets West [Rockstar]

Chinatown Wars Spread To The iPhone [Apple]

As is the way with most iPhone releases, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto : Chinatown Wars has been set loose upon the App Store with absolutely zero warning or pre-emptive fanfare. One moment, we’re busy getting on with our weekends, the next, we simply receive word that it’s out. Early reports say that the game is as faithful a reproduction of the DS/PSP game as you could expect on Apple’s handheld, with even the DS version’s touch-screen minigames making the jump to the iPhone/iPod Touch version. The game controls like most other iPhone ports – there’s a fake thumbstick and buttons arrayed on the touch screen – and you can check out a video above to see how it runs. ‘Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars’ Out in U.S. Too – First Impressions and Video [Touch Arcade]

These Were Some Of 2009’s Most Popular Games To Trade [Updated] [Retail]

Game-trading outlet Goozex have released some charts revealing what their most popular titles of 2009 were on the service, and included are comprehensive charts for each major video game platform. And, as you’re about to see, the lists are a little surprising, in that they differ wildly from what you’d see on sales charts. Take the DS, for example, with Chinatown Wars coming in ahead of New Super Mario Bros., even though the latter has outsold it around a billion to one. Or the Wii, where Madworld, which sold around three copies in North America all year, came in on top. Just goes to show, while some games are must buys, others are simply must rents. Overall: 1. Left 4 Dead 2. Fallout 3 3. Killzone 2 4. Infamous 5. Resident Evil 5 6. Fable II 7. Call of Duty: World at War 8. Gears of War 2 9. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 10. Metacritic Names PS3 The Best Gaming Platform Of 2009 [Metacritc]
December 10, 2009 by admin

Media review aggregator Metacritic has released a list of the top games and consoles of 2009, with the PlayStation 3 coming out on top of the site’s first annual Game Platform Power Ranking. The Game Platform Power Ranking isn’t just about the average review score of games across the various platforms. Metacritic takes into account the number of titles scored a 90 or higher when calculating the winner, which explains how the PlayStation 3 came out on top, despite PC titles having an average score of 72.5 to the PS3’s 72.0. As you can see in the chart, the Xbox 360 takes third place, followed by the Sony PSP. Nintendo’s two platforms take up the rear, perhaps as result of having more games released than any other console platform. So the PlayStation 3 is the top console, what are the top games? The PlayStation 3 tops the chart again, with the first three positions taken up with PS3 titles. In fact, of the three titles in the list that are platform exclusives, two of those belong to the PlayStation 3 – number one Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and the God of War Collection, with Xbox 360 racer Forza Motorsport 3 being the third. Not one game in the top 10 best reviewed games for the year is for the Nintendo Wii, with only a lone DS game – Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars – joining the five PS3 and four Xbox 360 titles. Going over all of the statistics, it looks like a matter of quality over quantity for the PlayStation 3. It’s good to see the sun shining on Sony’s black box, isn’t it? You can check out the full lists and breakdowns by platform over at Metacritic. The Best Games of 2009 [Metacritic]
