Welcome to Kotaku Off Topic. Are you busy watching the Interactive Achievement Awards? No? Would you like to talk about something not particularly video game related? This post is your chance. I am watching the Interactive Achievement Awards which is currently blazing through a bunch of awards like visual engineering awards and game play engineering. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves appears to be walking away with just about everything so far, with the exception of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Have you ever won any exciting awards? I think I have a few Pinewood Derby trophies and a few corporate accolades, but that’s about it. No Olympic gold medals, sadly. Anyway, carry on. This Kotaku Off Topic is all yours, as are these sundry links for potential conversation starters. American Pie getting the movie reboot? – At some point, reboots will happen before the original theatrical release. Google Goggles combines optical character recognition and translation – A very cool demo. Oh, goodie. A new penny. – Can we drop this thing? Campbell’s soup cans redesigned with “neuromarketing” – A little scary to me.

Couldn’t make it this year’s DICE Summit , but still want to bask in Jay Mohr jokes and watch Interactive Achievement Awards handed out to gaming luminaries? You can do so right now, as the awards show is now streaming online. The video game industry’s equivalent of the Academy Awards, the Interactive Achievement Awards is being streamed live on IFC.com, with a replay running on the film channel next week. With Uncharted 2: Among Thieves leading the list of video games nominated by members of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. Who will win?! Which off-color jokes will Jay Mohr make? In addition to video games and their creators winning awards for 2009’s best, Activision co-founder David Crane will receive the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences’ first ever Pioneer Award . Entertainment Software Association founder Doug Lowenstein will receive the AIAS’ Lifetime Achievement Award , and Marble Madness creator Mark Cerny will be presented with the Academy’s Hall of Fame Award. Plus, Jay Mohr is a funny guy who will hopefully make us laugh. Things appear to running a little behind at the time of publish, but stay tuned. We’re sure there will be guffaws and sincere thanks aplenty when IFC and the AIAS get their acts together. Interactive Achievement Awards [IFC.com]

Uncharted 2 Gets New Multiplayer Maps, Skins & Trophies On Feb. 25 [Playstation 3]

Naughty Dog’s PlayStation 3 action adventure Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is about to get some fresh multiplayer content in the form of two new maps, six new player skins and all-new PlayStation Trophies and in-game medals. So why are you looking at a screen shot of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune? Well, according to word from IGN , that multiplayer booster pack—$5.99 USD for the whole shebang, if you’re already wondering—is all based on content from the original Uncharted. Both maps are inspired by levels from the first game, with throwback skins for Drake, Elena, Atoq Navarro and more ready to freshen up your multiplayer game. The Trophies and medals are all multiplayer driven, unlike the original game’s set of purely single-player driven achievements. IGN has additional details on what those are and how to get ‘em. Kotaku’s game of the year, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, has spawned an official soundtrack which you can now purchase in physical form at your local record store on a “compact disc.” Fascinating! Greg Edmonson’s score for the PlayStation 3 action-adventure has been—as Naughty Dog points out on the PlayStation.blog—available on iTunes for some time. The expanded version, adding three tracks, has just been released and should be at a Peaches or Sam Goody or Camelot Music near you at this very second. Naughty Dog has offered a preview of the missing trio of tracks at the PlayStation.blog if you’re curious. It’s perfect for your next rock climbing outing! Game of the Year 2009: The Readers’ Choice Award [2009 Game Of The Year]

Taking nearly half of the more than 16,000 votes in our Game of the Year poll, this Playstation 3 exclusive garners Kotaku’s 2009 Reader’s Choice Award for Game of the Year. No, despite Mike McWhertor’s vigorous defense of the game, it wasn’t Demon’s Souls. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves earned about 48 percent of the total votes for Game of the year. Assassin’s Creed II came in second with about 21 percent of the vote and Demon’s Souls grabbed a distant third with about 16 percent. The remaining 15 percent or so of all votes went to a wide selection of write-ins which included Batman: Arkham Asylum, Left 4 Dead 2, Modern Warfare 2, Borderlands and Dragon Age: Origins. Stay tuned Monday for the official Kotaku Game of the Year announcement. We’ve posted our early thoughts on the three finalists and are now all debating which game should get the final nod. Keep in mind, those early discussions were designed to let you see some of the process, not to show you our decisions. We’re still all arguing here in the tower. Promise.
