Originally, the upcoming Resident Evil film, subtitled “Afterlife”, was penciled in for August 27, 2010. Then there were rumors, which the film’s star Milla Jovovich denied, that the movie would be released in January 2011. Then it actually got delayed . The RE flick was then scheduled to go up against MGM’s upcoming horror film Cabin in the Woods. This would have meant digital 3D screens (both movies are 3D) would have been split. The reason for the push was the extra time needed in post production for the movie’s special effects. However, it now appears that Afterlife director Paul W.S. Anderson won’t need extra time for the effects, and the movie is now on for September 10th. The previous two Resident Evil movies were released in September as well. Actress Sienna Guillory appeared in flick Resident Evil : Apocalypse as character Jill Valentine , but was M.I.A. in the third film, Resident Evil: Extinction. Rumors have it that there was a contract dispute with the actress. Director Paul W.S. Anderson is currently filming Resident Evil: Afterlife and star Milla Jovovich tweeted this tidbit: “Valentine MAY be back.” That also means she may not be back. Perhaps, Guillory worked out her contract issues or perhaps the producers are bringing on another actress altogether to play Valentine. Valentine to Return in Resident Evil: Afterlife?
